Our Android App

The Node World app is now 100% free to download directly from us! Head to the mobile login page to download our 100% free, 100% ad-free and 100% private Android app, built independently.

What's the buzz?

What's the buzz? We've tried to do it a little bit "different," and Google may not like that very much. A beta version of the app is available to download free privately from us, as we explore various outlets / the possibility of Google Play. Your patience is appreciated!

Oh, permissions?

Yes, we do ask for a few, and it should be noted that they are not mandatory. I do recommend Allowing both for best use: Notifications & to stay alive in your background (battery warning).

So, what for?

You, primarily. The app asks you if you want to keep us running in the background, which uses battery power. However, with this system, we have optimized in great deal both mobile and this app to be incredibly efficient.

This is primarily because we don't want to talk to Google anymore than we need to. The app is an optimized, custom webview interface, meaning its as light as a browser being open, and optimized to help save your battery as well.

We send manual push notifications for app updates, and system notifications for social interactions (reactions, comments, messages, etc). If you're a techy, you likely understand that Firebase is Google's pipeline, amongst many other dev tools.

We didn't want to talk to them.

What do we do?

Well, we built our own pipeline. TNW server shoots out a notification, pipes it correctly to the app, and you get the ding. This means we need to stay alive in fhe background to deliver the notification to your phone.

The Next Problem

Google may or may not like that, and may or may not approve the app for the Google Playstore. From what I have read, they absolutely hate it, and I think it's because their fingers are out of it.

Time will tell about that, perhaps they'll let it go through. If they don't, because they want to do it themselves, a version with Firebase (which is still very minimal, especially how it would be used here) may be released for public Play Store downloads, while an underground version remains available to download.

Should you worry?

No, you should not worry if you use the app and allow battery usage. This is identical to what Google already does, which is why they don't like it. We are a very small service that runs in the background, just like Google does (except we're a lot lighter).

The amount of battery we use staying connected is comparable most to a weather icon on your lock screen. It is a Google warning that exaggerates for the sake of putting one message for every app/device/etc).

So, installing?

On the mobile login page (if you're logged in, you'll need to logout) there is a button, "Get the App!" Click that to open the download button, and you're done! If you don't have third-party apps enabled, you'll need to do so.

That's it!

The mission was not "old school MySpace clone." The mission was design something in a space that doesn't exist to connect people in a way that lets them be crrative and expressive, and not locked to scrolling and sharing their lives away. :)
